snitchin'

"under pressure, i lie for ya, die for ya," remember those famous words of lil kim? and where is her ass now? in jail. a lot of black folks don't believe in snitchin. if it came down to going to jail or snitchin on somebody, they would actually deliberate on which one they would do. for me, it's a no-brainer. dammit, freedom is nice and my son needs his mamma. but many folks don't feel the same.

for instance, busta rhymes.

The hip-hop star has refused to cooperate with police investigating the slaying of his bodyguard Feb. 5 outside a Brooklyn studio where Rhymes was recording a video with performers such as Missy Elliott and Mary J. Blige. Police say that although Rhymes and as many as 50 others may have seen the shooting, no one came forward — an echo of the silence that followed the unsolved murders of rappers Tupac Shakur, the Notorious B.I.G. and Run-DMC's Jam Master Jay. it's the "street code", if you will. fug that. some people say that folks just hate cops so much they won't help them out for shit:

"There's such animosity toward the police in some urban communities that even people who aren't afraid, and who hate crime, still feel cooperating is something good people don't do"
(words of director of the Center for Crime Prevention and Control at John Jay College of Criminal Justice in New York) [source]

now, this, i can somewhat understand. and sometimes you just don't want to get involved. or sometimes you are scared that someone might do a drive by on your crib for snitchin on their peeps.

whatever the case, some people truly believe snitchin' is wrong. this one dude was about to rock a "stop snitching" t-shirt into court where he was going to be someone's witness. uh, that's not a good look.

if you're down with the "stop snitchin'" movement and want to represent, they actually sell t-shirts on the net.

and hats too:
